I’m glad to say that I’ve finally finished Hilt. It is currently at the printers in preparation for my exhibiting at Gold Coast Supanova (April 4th-6th) and Melbourne Supanova (April 11th-13th). After that I will have it on sale online. More details to come. In the meantime, here’s the cover image.
Quick paint up of an early design for the main character in Hand of Fate.
This week I’m taking a break from my day job at Defiant Development to blitz my comic in an effort to get ahead on it. It’s been a productive few days and is going to be capped by my attendance at ZICS (Zines & Indie Comic Symposium) this weekend. I’ll have a table there selling my wares, and will be doing a talk about my motivation and process I use in my Hilt at 2pm on Sunday as part of the Skillz 2 Pay the Billz workshop. If you’re in the Brisbane area come check it out.
In the meantime over at the HILT blog I’ve posted a style test I did a while back, an example of which is at the top. Click on the link or the image to head on over and check it out.
While work continues on my comic HILT I thought I’d post a sample page of completed artwork. Click on the image to head on through to the HILT blog and read all about it.
As I stated in my earlier post, I am working on Hand of Fate by Defiant Development, the makers of Heroes Call. Here is my work on the Minotaur faction. Starting off with some exploration sketches, we narrowed the field down to the two best. From there I did a few designs on each, before settling on the bulky fella. I then created a light, medium & heavy version. It was then decided that two higher classes were needed, the King and the Ace, which gave me opportunity to really embellish the designs further.
Just took delivery of my merchandise for this weekend’s Supanova down at the Gold Coast Convention Centre. Come on down to Nick & Pete’s Art Nuggets in Artist’s Alley, Booth D and pick up a 50 page art book, free Hilt bookmark, or just to see me making the Hilt comic live. Peter Yong will also be there with his lead chisel, sculpting 2D masterpieces hewn from purest graphite and selling his fine wares. Can’t wait!
This is Chabal, the villain of HILT. I’ve been working on the design of the armour for some time, more of which can be seen on the HILT Blog. Rest assured, the comic is being completed just as swiftly as circumstances allow.
